Modern shipbuilding relies on several proven construction techniques, each selected according to the vessel's size, purpose, and production requirements. The three primary approaches are block construction, nave and transept construction, and modular production. Block construction involves the prefabrication of large hull sections that are manufactured separately before being transported to the assembly area and joined together to form the complete vessel. Nave and transept construction refers to the use of longitudinal or transverse structural framing systems, each offering specific advantages in terms of strength, weight distribution, and structural performance. Modular production takes efficiency a step further by manufacturing, outfitting, and testing complete modules independently before they are integrated into the vessel, allowing multiple production activities to take place simultaneously and significantly reducing overall build times while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
